Got my fabric swatches in! So the fabrics feel right, the only issue, the silver fabric that I wanted, is apparently out of stock
. So my whole silver and black scheme is shot, and now I am thinking of something else. I am really trying to aim for the $3.99 fabrics because I honestly don’t have a lot of money for this. But here are the selections:

I’m thinking that this is the next candidate:
It will still look good mixed with black
And then I was thinking this:

But I’m not too sure. Not really feeling the green. So most likely I am going to go with the red. But I have to wait till Friday-to order since thats when my hubby gets paid and he will be buying the fabric for me.
Well on that note, I must go. Got some organizing and sewing to do.

So my goals for today is to:
- Clean my living room
- Clean my sewing area
- Straighten up kitchen and bathroom
- Vacuum
- Clean bedroom
Although it seems like a lot, it really is not. But for me, especially with feeling exhausted all hours of the day since we came back from Disney world, it appears to be a daunting task! lol. Hopefully I can motivate myself to get it all done. Because once those are done then I plan on doing the following things:
- Make a new bum roll. Last year’s bum roll was way to small, not enough roll for the bum to be noticeable!
- Make a new, pretty pouch for my new pretty gown
- Layout and cut the under layers for my bodice for my gown
- Layout and cut the under layers for my husbands doublet.
Here is the pattern that I ended up buying, although I said I will never buy a Simplicity pattern unless it was on sale, I just couldn’t let it go! lol

Men's Doublet
Now, if you know me, and have been a reader of my blog. You know that I hate using patterns! Not because I dislike patterns, but because I am the type of person that always wings it, and can figure out how to do things myself. When I use patterns, it kind of throws me for a loop when following their directions. So it’s not guaranteed that I will be using this pattern for his doublet, but it will be used as a guide at least.
Now for my dress this year. Of course I am basically winging it once again, as I did all of my dresses, but here is the inspiration:

Inspiration
Now for me, I don’t think I am going to do the shoulder rolls, and not sure if my waist of the dress will have the pleated effect as seen above. But that was basically my inspiration.
But I suppose that the only way to actually get those lists done is to stop blogging and do it! I will be back later with pictures on my progress!

It is July, and you know what that means? Ren Fair season 2009 is right around the corner. August is opening days for both the Pennsylvania Ren Fair and the Maryland Ren Fair, which my husband, my friends, and I will be attending.
This seasons project is a new nobles gown made of lightweight sliverish/periwinkle fabric, with a black emroidered trim, and a black underskirt, and that is for myself. For my husband, I will be making black crushed velvet tights for him, a new black mens shirt, and a doublet out of the silver/perwinkle fabric with matching trim.
The only thing I will not be making is a new hoop skirt, which I so desperately need. I have a “wedding” type hoopskirt which provides very little hoopness lol, I wore that last year when I converted the wedding dress into a ren fair dress.
So in other news we just came back from Disney World, and it was an awesome trip. I don’t think I showed you guys my “minnie mouse” dress

I’m thinking about whipping up a new dress for the 4th of July weekend, but my house is a mess, and before I start sewing I need to clean. So we shall see

Here are pictures of some of my past garb for the ren fair. I made all of these by myself! I either reconstructed garments, drafted my own patterns, or just freehanded it. Enjoy!

Wes and I

My friend Tim and I-with alot of Ale in our systems

Me in my red and black pirate garb-I didnt sew a waistband to the skirt!

Wes & I-Pants, pirate coat, bodice, gloves-We were going to use this picture for our wedding invites-say "till death do us part"

Simple 1 peice Irish Dress-black chemise-made 4 hours before opening day for PARF 2008

Wes and I-my first attempt at a nobles gown. Reconstructed from my ex-sister in laws wedding dress. I think for a first time, it came out very well

My closing day gown (and cloak) Gown is a navy blue velvet, and the cloak is from Half Moon
So these have been what I wore to the ren fair. As you can see, I have progressed fairly well, if I must say so myself. Stay tuned!

So-all I have to say is that the 50’s style dress for the wedding, did not work out so well. Once again, I procrastinated, and of course it showed. Honestly, the mock up looked great, but because I decided to take short cuts, I paid for it.
But in other news…Ren fair season 2009 is fast approaching. Well not really, but it is coming amongst us. It at least gives me a chance to start working on my opening day outfit, plus working on my closing day. I still have my two gowns from last year, and although I love them to death, Im not sure about wearing them again.
I think this year, for opening day for my home fair-MDRF, Im going to go with something simple. A nice bodice, chemise, and skirt. Not sure if I am going to do the pirate/wench look or the maiden look. The two big factors effecting what I chose to make are
1-weather. it is usually HOT on opening day.
2-comfort. since i have fibromyalgia, alot of things are uncomfortable for me. i cant wear a bodice that is too tight, because it would cause lots of pain.
So Im not sure, but I do have some other crafty things to do. I am going to Anthrocon 2009 this year. First year going. It’s basically a con for Furries, those who like humanized animals. I am going as a Liger. Lion/Tiger Mix. My outfit is hotpink and black (I am an exotic liger). The first, and most important thing to start with is the tail. So I will post updates as they come.

so i worked on the foreskirt of my dress, here is what the fabric and trim (up close) of my foreskirt looks like

now here is the fabric that will be the under part of the forskirt, and the middle panel of my bodice (which i will begin working on today)

and here is the headband that i soooo fell in love with that i will be wearing with my snood

now working on the foreskirt was a bit hard, my sewing machine DID not want to work with me, so i basically used fabric glue and glued down my seams, which in turn i burned my thumb
at 2:30 in the morning, my friend (who is also working on a renaissance outfit) and i went to walmart in which she purchased a new sewing machine. that worked fine. i was able to hem my foreskirt, and then add it to the waist band, she was able to hem her skirt, but the sewing machine (or it was just us) decided it didnt want to thread properly anymore. now keep in mind i have been making garb for the past two ren fair seasons, but i throw stuff together, and never actually learned how to properly use a sewing machine, i know the basics, and a hot glue gun has definitely become my best friend
so that is it for now. i need a much needed nap. we worked on our stuff from around 11pm to 6 am, and i still had to wake up early today.
i am going to work on my bodice today, add the trim and such to the fabric
later on i have to work on a pouch, a fan, and decorate my basket
